My Love For Gel Nail Polish

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

I love having my nails done.

If my nails aren't painted or are chipped, I feel like I'm not dressed properly. I love having bright nails, dark nails, pastel nails or even just clear polish, but they have to be shaped and looking clean and neat.

No excuses.

What I don't like is having to reapply or touch up my nail polish every couple of days. When I was at school or working part time I didn't mind at all. I would look forward to putting on a film and redoing my nails. I would make time for it and plan things around it. Yes, I know this is all very sad, but each to their own. But these days I just don't have the time. Trust me, I wish I did. My job is very demanding and I often have to pull insane shifts, but I still have that need for well manicured nails. Which is why I am obsessed with gel nail polish.

When I first had a gel nail manicure I thought it was amazing. The stuff they can do nowadays! It didn't chip or smudge and best of all, it was dry straight away! No waiting! Unfortunately, with my (at the time) minimum wage, it wasn't really something that I could maintain long term. I'm no longer on minimum wage, but I now have other priorities and as much as I think my nails are important, I would like to own my own house at some point. This is my problem, there will always be something else more important.

I recently celebrated a birthday and my wonderful Mummy bought me an LED nail lamp. As you can imagine, I was (and still am) over the moon! I immediately wanted to write on here how much I love it, but I hadn't even used it yet! So I told myself that I'd do the grown up thing and at least test it out first.

The lamp I have is the Elite99 48W CCFL + LED Professional Nail Lamp, with the 30s and 60s settings. This Lamp also comes with a USB light you plug in at the back and has an adjustable arm that you can move to suit your needs, making it extremely easy to use.

To set myself up with all the basics, I went on a lovely trip to Boots, where I bought myself the SensatioNail Gel Polish Essentials Kit (£25.00) and one (for now) SensatioNail Gel Polish in Purple Orchid (£15.00).

Gel Polish Essentials Kit:

  • Gel Cleanser
  • Gel Primer
  • Gel Base & Top Coat
  • Lint free wipes
  • Nail buffer
  • Orange Stick
The colour I chose was Purple Orchid.

After I spent some time doing my nails (yes I still love spending time on them when I get the chance) I was very pleased with the result. Having only ever had gels done by a professional, I was afraid that my amateur status was going to let me down, but I was pleasantly surprised! It was a lot easier than I imagined. It is a very "step heavy" process and it does take around an hour to do, but it is well worth it.  A couple of days after doing my nails, Tim and I had to go and help his parents move into their new house, where I preceded to clean an entire kitchen using some heavy duty chemicals (the things I've seen man!) and my nails haven't chipped at all! Not even worn thin slightly at the edges.

Overall I'm very impressed with my new "at home nail spa". I look forward to my soon to be obsessive gel polish collection!

Peace out! xxx
