Half Marathon Training - Week 1... or so I thought.

So this is the first week of my training plan and I'm already failing, because it's week 2! Yes I mixed up my dates and this is in fact meant to be the 2nd week of the training plan. Woopsies! But not to worry, as the 2nd week is pretty much the same as the first.

Monday - Rest day

Any training plan with the first day as a rest day is already a winner with me! Monday is bad enough as it is without adding exercise in! That said, I will still be doing my 30 Day Shred and I've also ordered an adjustable knee support, as I have some pain in my left knee (excellent start I know).


Day 3 (Level 1) of Shred done! OK, so I've seriously hurt my knee. Luckily I had an old support (it's too small that's why I've ordered a new one) that I could use while I did my 30 Day Shred. I also hopped on my exercise bike instead of doing the cardio Jillian tells you to do which is all high impact. I am quite concerned that I'm not going to be able to run tomorrow. I may have to go back on the bike. I think part of the problem is my weight. I'm not going to lie, I weigh 3 stone more than I should at 12st 6lb (I'm 5' 6" tall). I started running whilst carrying all that extra weight, so of course it's going to do some damage. I have 3 extra stone landing on my joints every time I put my foot down!

Normally, I would stop running immediately and lose weight overtime and when I was ready, sign up for a half marathon. However, I'm already signed up through a charity and it's one that means a lot to me. So there's no going back, not for me anyway. Which leaves me one option. Lose the weight and fast. This means that tomorrow morning at 6am I will be up and heading to the gym (hopefully)!

Tuesday - R/W 3 miles & Strength Training

I did it! I actually got up at 6am and went to the gym! It was bloody cold outside, but I enjoyed having enough time before work to watch some Harry Potter whilst I got ready. I actually felt more awake getting up the first time my alarm went off than I normally do when I hit snooze a thousand times and have another hour.

After work I am aiming to do 30 Day Shred. Because I have a lot of weight to lose in such a short amount of time, I want to make sure I'm getting in 2 workouts per day. But I need to make sure that I take it easy as I've gone from basically no exercise to full steam ahead. Probably another reason why my knee hurts!

Also on a side note, I have found an 8 week half Marathon training plan, so I'm not too worried about the running aspect of my training just yet!

Wednesday - XT 30 minute

This part of the plan is easy! Exercise bike and a film is a definite cross training day winner for me. I just need to make sure I don't get too drawn in by the film and keep up the speed on the bike! I know what I'm like.

I was at the gym at 6am again today. This morning I was feeling a little groggy, but I have a feeling tomorrow is going to be difficult. I need to make sure I have some good snackage with me!

When I came home after work, I was procrastinating for ages and now all of my evening has gone. Not impressed, but hopefully it'll spur me on tomorrow.

Also, my knee support arrived, but I think I'll be giving my knee a bit more of a rest and focusing on the weight loss for now. It's working! I just need to keep it up!

Thursday -  R/W 2 miles

I'm not going to lie, getting up was a struggle at 6am this morning. Not because I was tired I don't think, just because I don't usually go to the gym every single day, let alone do 2 workouts a day! I'm finding it mentally draining. It's the only way I can think to describe it. Either way, today's workout was not as successful as the others have been. I didn't get there until 7am and then I didn't know which exercises I wanted to do. When I got home I was that hungry I cooked myself some pasta. I was ready to go into full on Zombie mode! I'm really glad tomorrow is Friday, I'm going to rest at the weekend. At the start of this week I was planning on going to the gym on Saturday morning as well and only resting on Sunday. What. An. Idiot.

It ended up being a very long day in work and I didn't do anymore exercise. Very naughty I know! Especially considering that I managed to find time to go into Lush after work. 

Friday is going to be an early start for me as well, so I won't be going to the gym first thing either.

Friday - Rest Day 

I did the thing I always do today and I let work get in the way. I only have a short period of time in which to lose weight and if this is going to work, that can't happen. Next week is no excuses, gym every morning and either shred or bike (for at least 30 minutes) every night.
