Films - Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

I love Pirates Of The Caribbean. Like every other teenager at the time the first one came out, I had a massive crush on Orlando Bloom. Don't deny it, the man is beautiful.

The first film came out of nowhere and was amazing. Since then, they've been bringing out brilliant film after brilliant film. Granted they've not always been as amazing as the first though, which is why I was excited, but not full on obsession level when they announced a new one.

True to form Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) makes a brilliant entrance, in what I can only describe as a very Monty Python/Fast 5 -esque way. While the entrance was excellent, I was dissappointed to find that I wasn't really enjoying Jack Sparrow as a character. I've never really experienced this before, I mean this is a character that I already know and love and it all just felt felt horribly forced. The acting was great, but the writing felt weak. It seemed to take a while to warm up, but oddly only for the one character.

Now in all fairness the writer on this film didn't work on any of the others and it's always going to be difficult writing such a well known personality, but the 2 younger actors seemed to steal the show somewhat. Especially Kaya Scodelario's character, Carina Smyth. It did get better though, by the second half of the film it was back to the old Jack! Unfortunately we did have to cringe our way through a scene with Paul McCartney shoehorned in! I actually cringe at the mere thought of it! After that though I promise it quickly gets better!

One of the most hilarious scenes I've ever witnessed, comes straight after the cringe-fest! The facial expressions and the camera angle are absolutely perfect! I desperately want to write about it, but I don't want to spoil it for you! (Trust me, you'll know the scene I'm talking about if you've already seen it! It sound's French!) I would love to shake the hand of whoever thought of it! Pure genius!

Javier Bardem. What a dude. This guy is great in everything! He is a perfect villain. His acting is amazing. There is nothing else to say.

The one thing I wish they had done differently, was at the end when Jack Sparrow is at the wheel of the ship, have him sing "...and really bad eggs". I just think it would have mirrored the first film really nicely. But hey, that's just me.

Overall, this was a great film. Yes, it had it's problems, but the story was inspired. I love the idea of that map. Absolutely gorgeous! And the reveal got me right in the chest. Honestly, it was emotional. I cried. Elizabeth and Will are still my favorite on screen couple and my goodness make sure you stay and see the bit after the credits!

Let me know what you thought in the comments below! I'd love to know what your favorite scene was!
